What the heck is a Special Taxing District?  

If you are one amongst many who can answer that question, while others are scratching their heads about it, stand tall and be proud.  Many people who are a functioning part of a Special District simply don't know that their district is funded by a tax on properties. Yes, we Special Districts have that great power to levy taxes. But, along with that power comes an even greater responsibility. We are the stewards of that money we have taken from landowners. We are expected to manage that money very carefully in the operation of our Districts, for the betterment of our Districts, whether they be School Districts or TV Districts or Fire Districts.

Now, having said that, we need to bear in mind that we must be constantly keeping our ear cocked for any news, both good and bad, having to do with our district. This is just situational awareness. Almost like being watchful for snakes or beautiful flowers while out walking. It pays to be aware!  Whether you are the Chair, a Director, Office Staff, or Field Worker, (you / we) all have the privilege and the burden of paying close attention to what is going on in the State Legislature, County and City Affairs, and the National Economy, for any information that might affect our District and our communities that benefit from our services.
